President’s Message

We welcome your interest in the Prairie Baseball Academy. We endeavor to be the leading organization in the development of student athletes in the sport of baseball in Canada. We focus on athletic, academic, and personal growth and sincerely hope every player in our organization strives toward balance in these three areas.

Our year round facility is second to none in the country and serves as an excellent training facility as well as a perfect home for our baseball club. We have an outstanding coaching staff which focuses on immediate development needs as well as goal oriented long term development. The list of players who have gone on from our program to both high level programs and professional play continues to grow. We pride ourselves on fielding a competitive team which plays a very competitive schedule.

The schools with which we are partnered provide an excellent education for our students. Whether the goal is to transfer to schools in America or to graduate in Canada, we have something to offer all students. Our scholarship program supports all of our students, creating a climate where education and baseball are affordable as well as rewarding.

Our students are encouraged to become better citizens through the acceptance of responsibility and involvement with the community. Our players care for their facility and involve themselves with the community in youth camps, public relations, and volunteer work.

We hope to continue to attract student athletes who are committed to excellence in academics, athletics, and citizenship.

Glenn Secretan

THE ROLE OF THE ACADEMIC ADVISOR

The advisor assists students in the following ways:

- advice on choosing programs and courses
- accessing Alberta student loan information and personnel > adding or dropping courses after being registered
- finding tutors
- acting as liaison with professors and instructors > monitoring attendance
- monitoring student progress (report cards)
- assisting in communication with institution registrar's office and department heads

A WORD ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:

The key to success in school lies in three areas: attendance, time management, and personal motivation. Attendance is the first prerequisite to achievement and there can be no equivocation here - students cannot succeed if they are not there. This means that the student must find a balance between education and his social life very early - failure to do this will result in failure in the classroom. Time constraints are significant for baseball players during certain time of the semester so players must budget time carefully. This is good training for a student and good training for life as well. Motivation is everything in athletics and the same motivation and commitment is necessary in the classroom. When you really want to succeed it often happens. At P.B.A. we are concerned with the development of the entire person as student, athlete, and citizen.

Student athletes in the program are required to maintain a 2.0 grade point average in order to continue their participation on the team. Many of our students have grade point averages above 3.0.
