PBA ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET

This is our opportunity to proudly showcase the academic and personal achievements of our team. Each year, our individual players benefit from over $50,000 in scholarship monies to assist in their education pursuits. In addition, we will recognize our All-Academic Team for the PBA.

This year, we are very pleased to announce that our guest speaker will be Lars Davis, the Ultimate Alumni.

Lars has combined academics, athletics and character in a way we would like all of our students to model, and we are honored he has accepted our invitation to be our guest speaker.

We are also pleased to announce that our MC for the evening will be Brent Seely, local area celebrity. 

Events of the evening will include:

  • Welcome from PBA, City of Lethbridge, Local MLA's, Government Representatives, University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge College
  • Scholarship Presentations
  • Recognition of All-Academic Team
  • Recognition of Instructors of the Year from U.of L. and L.C.
  • Guest Speaker - Lars Davis
  • Silent Auction with over 100 items available
  • Live Auction with over 12 valuable items available including a beautiful hand-stitched queen sized quilt donated and created by Mitch Schaafsma's grandmother, Darlene Layton.

  • Fly Fishing Float Trip (Missouri River, Montana) & 1 night accomodation in Great Falls MT (apprx $750 value)
  • Jet Boat Tour on the South Saskatchewan River for two. A 2 day overnight trip which includes meal on the boat, supper at the Ranch, overnight stay at the Ranch and Cowboy Breakfast (approx $450 value)

Lars Davis

Lars Davis hails from Grande Prairie, Alberta where he attended high school and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays right out of school.  He played for Team Alberta at the Canada Cup in 2002.  He came to PBA in the winter of 2003 and played for the Prairie Dawgs in 2004-05 where he lead the team in At Bats, Hits, Home Runs and Doubles.  Academically Lars was one of the finest student Athletes we have ever had in our program.

From PBA he went on to the University of Illinois where he was their starting catcher for two years.   In his senior year at Illinois he led the team in Batting Average - 435, Runs - 38, hits - 73, Home Runs - 9 and RBI - 42.  In addition he was a semi finalist for the Johnny Bench Award, awarded annually to the Nations best Catcher.  He was also chosen Second Team All-American, All Ping Team Catcher and Big Ten Player of the Year. And he did all this while studying Molecular and Cellular Biology, maintaining a 3.0 GPA. 

In spring, 2007, Lars was drafted by the Colorado Rockies and signed in the 3rd round. He just completed his first year of professional ball where he played for the Tri-City Dust Devils.

 

Brent Seely

Brent Seely, a Lethbridge native son, had a 41 year career in Radio and Television. Early in his career, he was the Sports Director for CJOC Radio and CJLH - TV. During that time he had the good fortune of covering Olympics in Mexico in 1968 and travelled to Russia in 1972 to cover the Summit Series. The last 30 years he managed radio stations. In retirement, Brent keeps busy as a Master of Ceremonies and has been on the Board for the Alberta Motor Association for the last ten years.
