ROB WATT
My time at PBA was and still is the biggest influence on my life in terms of learning the game, understanding what it takes to be successful on and off the field, and most importantly contributing to helping me further my education and pursuing a career in the sport that I love. Along with the great memories that I have from my playing days there, I have more lifelong relationships from the people I was able to meet while I completed my eligibility there than anywhere else I have been. The PBA was the gateway for my pursuit of a life in baseball - the doors it has opened for me from the moment I became a part of the program are endless. Not only did it allow me to further my playing career and consequently laid the foundation of my career choice as a college baseball coach.
After completing my eligibility at PBA I was granted the opportunity to play at one of the best NCAA Division II schools in the country - Wayne State College in Nebraska. I was appointed team captain by my teammates and became a part of a team that set new standards for success at that program, sharing that success with two former peers from PBA. When my playing days were over I was fortunate again to be offered a coaching postion with WSC where I worked with catchers, outfielders, hitters and assisted in the recruiting process - all while pursuing a Master's Degree in Exercise Science. After spending three years on WSC's coaching staff my family and I moved to Mount Olive, NC where I currently hold the position of Head Assistant Recruiting Coordinator at Mount Olive College, which is a perenial Top 15 team in Division II baseball. Our team from a year ago played exceptionally well and earned a bid in the NCAA tournament where we eventually lost in the South Atlantic Regional. That team's success was highlighted by being ranked in the top ten of most offensive categories in the country. I am proud to say that a fellow PBA alumni played a huge role in that success as five of them were on the roster. We continue to pursue a number of PBA players as recruits because of their proven abilities and their extreme drive towards success and look to this year's team as one that can legitimately contend for the National Championship. Other coaching endeavours I am currently involved with are: I serve as the Head Coach of the Martinsville Mustangs of the Coastal Plain League in the summers. My time in the summers has given me valuable head coaching experience and allowed me to coach some of the most talented college players from all over the country. This past summer saw the Mustangs crowned as first and secong half champions in our league.
I currently live with Shawn, my wife of eight years and my two sons, Mason (8) and Rowan (4) in Mount Olive. I have chosen a life in baseball, though it demands countless hours of effort I enjoy every part of it. I have been blessed to be a part of so many quality programs and had the chance to work with and learn from numerous quality coaches and players. All of these opportunities would not have been alloted to me had it not been for my time at the PBA.
My thanks and loyalty to the program will last forever - I cannot say thank you enough.
