The Kamloops Tournament Oct. 6th, 7th and 8th did exactly what the coaching staff wanted it to do. We knew we had a good group of freshman recruits but we needed to see how they would travel and play. For the most part they all traveled well but need to learn how important sleep is on the road. A couple of players locked up a spot on the Varsity Team in the spring as long as they pass. A couple of others made their fate by showing they weren’t quite ready to play at this level. We took players there that we thought could play for us now or in the future and we were right. We also left players at home that we know can play for us now and in the future.
As fall has progressed it is quite obvious that we have work to do with fundamentals of the game. This is not unexpected as we have so many first year players in camp. We have now completed the competitive aspect of fall. This week the boys will play their World Series and Saturday will be our annual Marathon game and Supper. We will gave the team some time off baseball to concentrate on their studies then into the weight room for our fall strength training component.
The coaching staff feels the fall has been a learning experience for all of us. Now we look forward to working with individuals and setting the stage for next spring.
