LLOYD NOLAN YARD
Our stadium is the finest amateur baseball facility in Canada. Situated on Stafford Drive and Sixth Avenue in Lethbridge, it has a field area 328 feet at the corners and 405 feet in center field. Large dugout areas and underground tunnels to the dressing rooms make it very convenient for players and coaches. Our three story indoor training facility allows us to train year round. At field level are a 900 square foot visitors locker room and a 1600 square foot Dawgs locker room, complete with showers and weight training area. Also at field level is a training room, coaches office, and pitching tunnels, where hitters can hit live pitching. On the second level we have the indoor hitting area (80x 44 feet), concession, and washrooms, along with storage areas. Level three has a huge press box, score keeper's room, offices, board/class room, bathrooms, storage, and an outdoor mezzanine, which is the best place to watch a ball game we have ever seen. This facility offers the best place in Canada to train year round and play college baseball.
"...unbelievable, major league quality, unequalled anywhere in Canada..."
"...a year round facility that can only enhance our baseball abilities..."
"...facilities, field, coaching, administration everything to be a successful organization..."
FIELD OF DREAMS
With the advent of College Baseball in the City of Lethbridge, the PBA found it more and more necessary to have a "yard" that they could call home. Discussion was initiated with the City of Lethbridge in the Spring of 1996. Tom Hopkins and Ron Peterson of the City of Lethbridge were very instrumental in the site locaton and negotiations with the baseball community in development of this new yard. The City of Lethbridge initially donated the land and $125,000 to get this project off the ground. The PBA then made application to CFEB for a matching grant in the Spring of 1997. The PBA received, with the assistance of our MLA Clint Dunford, a grant for $125,000. Also in the Summer of 1997 the family of Lloyd Nolan generously donated $125,000 for development of our new yard. It was decided at that time with the City of Lethbridge blessing that the new yard would be called Lloyd Nolan Yard. The rest of 1997 was left to the planning of the new ball park. Many of our ideas were conceived by our Coach Blair Kubicek. Spring of 1998 finally saw construction start. The City of Lethbridge appointed Rick Williams and Reg Archenko as project coordinators to work along with us in the development of this yard. By the fall we had the playing surface completed with underground sprinklers, tile drainage, wood fence, cement dugouts and a turfed infield. Phase II of our development, "Our Clubhouse", began construction in the fall of 1998. The structure houses a full length pitching tunnet, batting cages, an indoor infield area, weight room, meeting room, kitchen facilities, as well as our Coaches offices. Lloyd Nolan Yard was fully operational by the fall of 1999. |
