The CCBC Canadian World Series day 1 has came to a end with 2 games happening on day 1.
Game 1: Okanagan Coyotes vs. Victoria Golden Tide
We saw the number 1 seeded Okanagan College Coyotes take on the 8 seeded Victoria Golden Tide. The first game featured 2 righties on the mound in Teagan Ribbink and Jeff Pacholko. Ribbink went 6.1 innings allowing 10 hits to the golden tide offence but was really good at minimizing the damage only allowing 3 earned runs with 6Ks. Pacholko had a tough start going 4.2 innings allowing 11 hits with 8 earned runs and 4 walks. Staying on the pitching side, Lyndon Sinclair came in relief for the Coyotes getting the last 2 outs to close out the game. Colmen Kawaguchi and Conrad timmerman both provided doubles for the Coyotes. Kawaguchi had 3 RBI's and Timmerman driving in 4 runs. The Coyotes also had a big power on display here in game 1 getting home runs from Timmerman, Nolan King and Ethan Skiffington. The Coyotes took care of business in game 1 with a convincing 14-4 win over the Golden Tide advancing to the next round. For the Golden Tide they will go to the losers bracket and play a elimination game May 17th at 4PM. The Coyotes play May 18th earning themselves a day off.
Game 2: U of C Dinos vs UFV Cascades
Our second game of the day featured the 2 seeded UFV take on the 7 seeded Calgary Dino's. Mason Chien got the ball for game 1. The Dino's gave the ball to Ethan Webster for game 1 as well. Even though the Cascades made 4 errors they took home a 11-0 win over the Dino's not letting them be our first upset of the tournament. Chien went 6 innings allowing 9 hits but 0ER with only 1 walk and having 3Ks gave UFV a massive start. Ethan Webster went 6 innings to start the title defence for the dino's he gave up only 3ER on 7 hits with only 1 walk but after that the bullpen fell apart for the Dino's giving up 7 more runs. Renneberg had 6 RBI's on the day for UFV helping them to a massive 11-0 win sending them to the next round they will play May 18th at 1PM. For the Dino's it was a tuff start to the title defence as they head to the losers bracket facing elimination in there next game they will play May 17th at 7PM May 17th action gives us 4 games at Spitz Stadium where to start the day we see Edmonton take on prairie baseball academy at 10AM the next game features TRU taking on VIU at 1PM and then 2 losers bracket games where we will see the Golden Tide and Dino's taking on the losers of the games before at 4 and 7PM.
